Seeds is a poignant and immersive interactive performance piece, inviting participants to honor the martyrs from Palestine in 2023. The ritual involves consuming olives and burying the seeds in a landscape covered with sand, emulating the undulating landscapes of Palestine. This act is not just a symbolic burial but a profound honoring of lives lost to occupation, visualizing each seed growing in a free Palestine, representing resistance and hope.
The essence of Seeds is to honor and value every individual taken far too soon, emphasizing the importance of remembrance and the ongoing struggle for the land. It seeks to foster empathy and a deeper understanding of the complex realities faced by the Palestinian people, highlighting the themes of resistance and the pursuit of justice for Palestine. The piece leaves the viewer with a compelling question: How can we, as Americans, educate ourselves and confront our complicity in the ongoing destruction and occupation of Palestine?
This piece was first performed on September 29th, 2023, with almost 200 hundred martyrs at the time; the number has now risen to over 15,000 lives taken.
